Ode to the Journeyman Mechanic

The Apprentice is now “The Professional”

The Doc of a special hospital.

He works on bodies innate of tin,

Mans destruction…… the chronic sin.

They tow in bodies with flashing lights,

Limping, puffing…..…it’ll be a fight!

To save this mangled piece of junk,

Pulled from the river…….before it sunk.

First he checks the temperature,

A broken radiator?.....…he must be sure.

If it seems to be that it overheated,

He will give it all the fluids it needed.

He daily gives transfusions of oil and grease,

Or works to put back each body…. piece by piece.

But sometimes finding those pieces can be so hard,

So he consults the Doc of the old junk yard.

He treats the patients all the same,

Whether problems resulted from a drunk or dame.

And he always takes the time to see,

What that hiss, rattle or thump could be.

Sometimes however……....…… he looses a few,

He shakes his head……. “Get Something New”

He’ll point his finger to the showroom floor,

He feels so bad……. he could do nothing more.

So now that he has completed his apprenticeship,

And at last……… has received his certificate,

I know that whenever my vehicle gets sick,

I’ll call my favorite……… “UNION MECHANIC”
